The Heights

The Heights neighborhood in Little Rock is one of the most affluent and desirable neighborhoods in town.  It is centered around the Country Club of Little Rock, the city’s oldest private country club.  It, along with Hillcrest, was one of Little Rock’s first suburbs.  Originally known as Forest Heights, it developed in the early 1900’s once a streetcar line was constructed that could carry people from the area to downtown and back.  From 1904 through 1939, there was a large park in the area which included a bandshell, amusement park, roller coaster, indoor theater, a horse racing track, and large swimming pool.

Today it still has many of the wonderful homes of that era including stately Tudors and Colonial Revival homes as well as smaller bungalows set among tree-shaded streets.  Because the Heights is such a coveted location, it is one of the few places in the city that has seen small homes taken down with new, larger homes built in their place.

The Heights also has wonderful boutique shopping, art galleries and independent restaurants along its main thoroughfare, Kavanaugh Boulevard.  And every third Thursday evening, the merchants and neighborhood association hold a “Happy Hour in the Heights” for people to stroll through the shops and restaurants.  There are other neighborhood activities held in the area including Chili Fights in the Heights and the Firecracker 5K.  It is a very walk-friendly neighborhood.

The homes range in price from $300,000 to over $3,000,000. It is very conveniently located to both downtown and west Little Rock. See below for available homes in the Heights
